Eye Tracking

Eye tracking is a non-invasive way to measure and record looking patterns while a research participant views stimuli or performs a task. At the Yerkes Research Center, eye tracking is used in work with both human and nonhuman primates to measure attention as well as the viewing preferences and search strategies that underlie cognition and behavior. Eye tracking can be used in combination with functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) to help identify the structures in the brain that are involved in these processes. Additionally, eye tracking helps researchers identify normal patterns of looking during tests of face perception and scene recognition. This information can then be used to help develop rehabilitation strategies for people who do not show normal looking behavior.
